The following are the steps and procedures that will be followed when a Chromebook is reported stolen.
- IT will create a ticket to track the device.
- IT will notify the building principal of the stolen device, see if there is other information that IT needs to know, and CC them in the ticket communications.
- IT will get the asset tags and serial numbers from Follett and mark the items as stolen. Leave the items assigned to the student.
- IT will put the student's name, CB asset tag, charger asset tag, and CB serial numbers into a ticket.
- IT will move the device to the "Lost Devices" OU in GAFE.
- IT will set the device to "disabled" in GAFE (not provisioned, not suspend...never deprovision).
- IT will put the copy and paste the following from GAFE into the ticket.
- IP Addresses
- Recent activity
- Recent users
- Building administrative assistant will contact parent to get:
- A police report from the parent. The police report will need to say that there was a School District 145 Chromebook stolen.
- The contact information of the officer working the case/report.
- IT will provide the police department with the:
- Chromebook asset tag and serial number
- Charger asset tag and serial number
- IT will notify the building media specialist to issue an in-school loaner Chromebook to the student to use for the day and return before leaving school.
- Once the district has received the police report, IT will notify the media specialist that the student should be issued a replacement Chromebook.
- IT will add the fee for the Chromebook to the student in PowerSchool, see the solution for adding fees.
- IT will add the fee for the charger to the student in PowerSchool, see the solution for adding fees.
- IT will check the Chromebook in GAFE to see if there has been any recent activity on the device or the ip address has updated. If it has, IT will inform police.
